Now, when I say mindfulness, many people immediately think meditation and then panic. They go, there's no way I can sit in that posture, or I can't be sitting still for that period of time. And then they just tune out. Then they lose out on the tremendous benefit of mindfulness.
So, let me take a couple minutes and just share with you the distinction between mindfulness and meditation.
Mindfulness is just the practice of being present and fully aware in the current moment, without judgment. It's simply being aware of what it is that you are feeling, seeing, smelling, hearing in the present moment without judgment. It's turning off all the critical thoughts and criticisms and stuff that run through the head, and just observing without judgment.
In contrast, meditation is the process of trying to still the mind, to just not think, at least as I have learned it and experienced it. Meditation is just one form of mindfulness. So, we can separate the two.
Mindfulness is something that every human has the capability of doing, and it's something which can be nurtured and cultivated. It is simply getting in touch with what you are observing and experiencing in the present moment without judgment.
I will be sharing with you a process in these videos called the Pondera Process, which is just one form of mindfulness. It's very easy to do and something that you'll be able to embrace and benefit from.
So, in thinking about mindfulness, I want you to imagine the ocean. And on the ocean, you have the surface with the waves, and it can be choppy depending on what's going on with the weather patterns. Same way in your life. It depends on what the weather is like in your environment, in your situation right now, as to how choppy your thoughts are.
But underneath the ocean, below the surface, when you come down, things become much quieter. You have a current of energy that's flowing along in the ocean, which is then reflected up in the surface, but down below it's much stiller, it's calmer.
Deep waters run calmer, deep waters run still, however that phrase goes. So that's what we're going to tap into. And with intention, you can get into that place below the mind, into your core, and tap into what's really that part of you which is more than what you can see and experience. It's tapping into your superpower.
So, mindfulness is just simply learning how to be present without judgment and allowing yourself to go in deeper into who you really are and tap into your superpower.
In the next video, I will share with you a simple process that you can use to go there, that you can intentionally use to nurture your state of mindfulness and to tap into your superpower.
